The Hayate the Combat Butler 52-episode anime was produced by animation studio SynergySP and with music by Kōtarō Nakagawa.

Hayate Ayasaki is an unlucky teenager who worked since childhood to make ends meet due to his parents' irresponsible behavior. One day he finds out that his parents were planning to sell his organs to the Yakuza to make money, leaving behind a massive gambling debt on his shoulders. While running away from the debt collectors, he ends up meeting Nagi Sanzen'in, a young girl who is the sole heir of the wealthy Sanzen'in estate, and due to a misunderstanding, Nagi ends up falling in love with Hayate. After he rescues Nagi from some kidnappers, she hires Hayate as her new butler.

Aside from performing his ordinary duties as a butler, Hayate must fight to protect Nagi from harm, a difficult task since her life is always in danger because she is the target of other individuals coveting her family's fortune, and sometimes deal with some extravagant requests from her, oblivious to Nagi's true feelings for him. In the later story, Hayate has to deal with the feelings of several other girls, including the president of the student council of Nagi's school, Hinagiku.

01 "Fullmetal Alchemist"
"Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" (鋼 の錬金術師)
The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, who have already made a strong reputation of themselves despite Edward's short military career, are called upon by Führer King Bradley and Colonel Roy Mustang to hunt down rogue State Alchemist Isaac McDougal. Edward and Alphonse ambush and successfully capture their target. However, due to Ed's carelessness, the "Freezing Alchemist" finds an opening and escapes. The Elric brothers alongside the State Military are forced to confront McDougal again when he simultaneously activates numerous transmutation circles in Central, which creates an alchemic reaction encompassing the entire Central Command Center. Ed suspects the use of a Philosopher's Stone, but is unable to confirm his suspicion. Luckily, the Elrics, Major Alex Louis Armstrong, and Mustang succeed in thwarting McDougal's plans to bury Central in ice. The Führer confronts McDougal as he attempts to escape. In the brief battle that follows, Isaac is easily cut down by the Führer, who later credits both Colonel Mustang and the Elric brothers in helping accomplish the mission.
02 "The First Day"
"Hajimari no Hi" (は じまりの日)
Colonel Maes Hughes shows Mustang the paperwork concerning the McDougal incident, which states that McDougal used a Xingese art known as alkahestry; neither Hughes nor Mustang have heard of it. As the Elrics depart for Liore by train, Ed reminisces his and Al's childhood. They learn rudimentary alchemy from their father's books, and, after their mother's death, attempt to revive her by performing taboo human transmutation. During the alchemical reaction, a dark shadow emerges, grabbing hold of Al and Ed, completely breaking down Al's physical body. Ed awakens before a mysterious gate and meets a disembodied figure, referring to itself as "all," "one," and "you." In order to show Edward "The Truth," the door opens and shadows embrace Ed, filling his mind with information. However, he is pulled back from the gate just before he learns the secret behind perfect human transmutation. As a "toll" for this knowledge, the disembodied figure removes Edward's leg as payment, taking it for itself. Back in reality, Ed curses his actions in causing his brother's disappearance, and the disfigured humanoid the Elrics created in the center of the transmutation circle cries out before shortly dying. Using his own blood as an anchoring point, Ed bonds Al's soul to a suit of armor, losing his arm to equivalent exchange. Ed's skill in both surviving the attempted human transmutation and anchoring his brother's soul attracts the attention of Mustang, who suggests Ed become a State Alchemist. Edward accepts, and, after passing the state exams, is given the title "Fullmetal Alchemist."
03 "City of Heresy"
"Jakyō no Machi" (邪 教の街)
Ed and Al arrive at Liore, where they witness Father Cornello's "miracles," performed by what could only be the Philosopher's Stone. They meet Rosé and request to see Cornello. Cornello, who is aware of the State Alchemists, ambushes Ed and Al, and asks Rose to shoot the Fullmetal Alchemist. Rosé accidentally shoots Al, and discovers his armor is empty. Cornello sends a chimera after Ed, who fends it back with his automail, revealing their sin. Ed and Al escape, taking Rose with them. While Al explains to Rosé the sin they have committed, Cornello finds Ed and reveals his plans, unaware it had been broadcasted to the whole town of Liore. When Cornello tries to use the Philosopher's Stone against Ed, it rebounds. When he tries to use it again, he grows into a monster and fights Ed, but is defeated by him. When Ed tries to retrieve the Philosopher's Stone from Cornello, it breaks, revealing it as a fake. Cornello runs off, but is killed by Lust and eaten by Gluttony. When Rosé confronts Ed and Al about the stone, Ed tells her to walk on her own two feet.
04 "An Alchemist's Anguish"
"Renkinjutsushi no Kunō" (錬 金術師の苦悩)
A mysterious man with a "X"-shaped scar across his face attacks and murders State Alchemists. King Bradley orders Hughes and Armstrong to use all available resources to stop the murderer. Meanwhile, to avoid being in debt to Edward for helping to resolve what happened in Lior, Mustang introduces the Elrics to Shou Tucker. Tucker, the "Sewing-Life Alchemist," obtained his State Alchemist credentials by creating a chimera that could understand human language. He opens up his library to the Elrics for them to study living creature transmutation, but they also end up devoting time to play with Tucker's young daughter Nina and family dog Alexander. Upon returning to the house for another study session, they find that Tucker has created another speaking chimera in order to satisfy his yearly examination requirements. However, Ed is horrified to discover that the speaking chimera was created using Nina and Alexander, and realizes that Tucker did the same with his wife, two years prior. Ed nearly beats him to death, stopped only by Al. Ed is left feeling helpless, while Mustang tells him that by being a State Alchemist, Ed must prepare himself to take a life if called upon by the military. While Tucker is under arrest for his actions, he is visited by the scarred man who kills him and the chimera.
05 "Rain of Sorrows"
"Kanashimi no Ame" (哀 しみの雨)
After Ed wakes up from a nightmare, the Elrics stop by Mustang's office to inquire about Shou and Nina Tucker. Encountering Lt. Riza Hawkeye, she reveals, as she heads to the crime scene, that they have both been killed. Meanwhile, back in Lior, Lust and Gluttony attempt to cause a rebellion using the faith of the locals, with Envy using his shape-shifting powers to disguise himself as Cornello. Back at East City, as Ed and Al dwell on their limits in alchemy, they are viciously attacked by "Scar." They quickly retreat until they are cornered and are forced to defend themselves, resulting in Scar destroying Ed's arm and damaging Al's body. Just as Scar prepares to finish off Ed, Mustang and his soldiers intervene. Mustang attempts to subdue Scar, but is saved by Hawkeye, who reminds the Mustang that his flame alchemy is useless in the rain. When Armstrong arrives and battles Scar, it is revealed that the man is an Ishbalan. Outnumbered, Scar manages to escape into the sewers, and Mustang tells the Elric brothers about the Ishbal Massacre. The Elrics then decide to head back to Resembool to repair their bodies.
06 "Road of Hope"
"Kibō no Michi" (希 望の道)
After their encounter with Scar, the Elric brothers, escorted by Armstrong, head back to Resembool. During a stop in a small town on their way to Resembool, Armstrong spots a man named Tim Marcoh. He explains that Marcoh was a State Alchemist and doctor during the Ishbal War, and conducted research on biological alchemy before disappearing at the end of the war. In an effort to learn about Marcoh's research, Ed decides to get off the train and chase after Marcoh. They catch up to him and learn that he was researching the Philosopher's Stone, and that he succeeded in creating it, though it is still incomplete. At first refusing to share his knowledge with Ed, Marcoh eventually gives them a clue to the location of his research data. After they reach Resembool, Winry Rockbell and her grandmother, Pinako, get to work on Ed's automail. After receiving his replacement arm and leg, Ed uses his alchemy to rebuild Al's armor from the shattered remains. Afterwards, the brothers, along with Armstrong, head back to Central to find Marcoh's research.
07 "Hidden Truths"
"Kakusareta Shinjitsu" (隠 された真実)
Ed and Al arrive back in Central, only to find that the First Branch Library had been burned to the ground. Scar encounters and battles Lust and Gluttony in the sewers, resulting in a large explosion. Ed and Al's new escorts, Maria Ross and Denny Brosh, direct Ed and Al to Sheska, a file clerk who had worked at the First Branch, but was fired for spending all her time reading. Sheska reveals that she has memorized all of Marcoh's works, and then makes hand-written duplicates for the Elrics. While initially appearing to be a cookbook, Ed notices that is written in a code that Marcoh created. Ed and Al spend several days deciphering the hidden data, only to discover that the Philosopher's Stone is made from living humans. Ed asks Ross and Brosh to keep it a secret, but Armstrong learns about it using intimidation. Ed notices another hidden piece of information, locating an unused laboratory next to a prison, where raw materials for the stone were gathered. Armstrong tells Ed and Al to stay put, but they both manage to sneak out to the laboratory. Ed enters the building via an air duct while Al waits outside, unaware that he is being watched by a menacing figure.
08 "The Fifth Laboratory"
"Daigo Kenkyūsho" (第 五研究所)
Outside the lab, Al fights Barry the Chopper, and Ed faces Slicer inside. It is revealed that both opponents are souls of murderers affixed to armor. Ed struggles in his battle when his automail arm malfunctions, the result of Winry forgetting to add a small bolt back in Resembool. Ed is particularly troubled when his opponent turns out to be a pair of brothers, each controlling a different part of the armor. Al initially has the advantage in his fight, until Barry suggests that Al never existed and was just a doll made by Ed. Al contemplates this as a possibility, since Ed had previously mentioned to Al that he had something he was afraid to tell him. Ed manages to defeat Slicer by using Scar's destruction technique, but before he can get any information from the two brothers, they are killed by Lust and Envy. Ed demands to know who they are and tries to use alchemy, but his automail arm breaks and he gets knocked out by Envy. Outside, Barry almost gets the upper hand on Al, but he is saved by the arrival of Ross and Brosh. Envy and Lust destroy the lab to cover up the evidence of the Philosopher's Stone, but not before carrying Ed outside and handing him over to Ross and Brosh, commenting that he is an "important sacrifice."
09 "Created Feelings"
"Tsukurareta Omoi" (創 られた想い)
Ed and Al are in hospital following the Fifth Laboratory incident. Ross slaps Ed for being reckless, and asks him to trust adults more. Needing his automail repaired, Ed calls for Winry to come to Central. When Winry arrives at the train station, Al contemplates what Barry had told him. Hughes invites Winry over to his daughter's birthday party, where she laments that Ed and Al never tell her anything. Hughes tells her that men tend to hide things so as not to worry anyone. Al decides to confront Ed about what he was afraid to tell him, asking if he was really an artificial soul. Ed storms off and Winry yells at Al, telling him that Ed was terrified that Al blamed him for getting him stuck in the armor. Ed and Al then have a fight, which Ed wins, and they both reminisce about their past fights, reaffirming their existence. Meanwhile, Scar wakes up in the care of Ishbalan refugees.
10 "Separate Destinations"
"Sorezore no Yukusaki" (そ れぞれの行く先)
Ed and Al decide to go to the town of Dublith to visit their alchemy teacher, Izumi Curtis, to ask her for information about the Philosopher's Stone. They agree to take Winry with them when she notices that Rush Valley, a town best known for its automail shops, is on the way to Dublith. King Bradley appears and warns the Elrics to be careful around the military, and he then hops out of a window to evade his subordinates. Hughes investigates the problems in Lior, The Fifth Laboratory, and the war in Ishbal. He discovers a connection, but is then attacked by Lust. He escapes her and tries to telephone Mustang with his information at a public phonebooth, only to be gunned down by Envy disguised as Maria Ross, and then as his wife Gracia. Hughes is posthumously promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. Mustang investigates Hughes' murder, and concludes via Armstrong that a high-ranked member of the military may be responsible for the command of Hughes' death.
11 "Miracle at Rush Valley"
"Rasshu Barē no Kiseki" (ラッ シュバレーの奇跡)
As Ed, Al and Winry arrive in Rush Valley, Ed's State Alchemist Watch is stolen by a pickpocket named Paninya, who has automail legs. After tracking her down, Winry asks her automail's creator, Mr. Dominic, to let her be his apprentice, but is swiftly declined. As Winry convinces Paninya to stop pickpocketing and return the watch, she peeks in it and finds, carved inside, the date Ed and Al burned down their house. Meanwhile, one of the residents is having a baby, and since they are unable to travel to a hospital in the poor weather, Winry decides to deliver the baby. Following a successful birth, Winry asks again to be an apprentice, and Mr. Dominic directs her to another mechanic where she can study to become a better automail engineer. With that, Ed and Al continue onwards to Dublith.
12 "One is All, All is One"
"Ichi wa Zen, Zen wa Ichi" (一 は全、全は一)
Ed and Al visit Izumi in order to get clues on the Philosopher's Stone. During their stay, the Elric brothers recall how they first met Izumi during a flooding in Resembool, and how they had been formally accepted as Izumi's disciples after being stranded on an island for 30 days. Ed recalls that he and Al had figured out the meaning behind "One is All, All is One." Izumi notices that Ed and Al had attempted human transmutation, due to their movement during hand-to-hand combat training. Realizing that they were not the only ones who had committed the taboo, Izumi tells the Elrics that she also had attempted human transmutation to bring back her child, who died when Izumi became sick during pregnancy. The three make up, realizing the hardships that they went through after suffering the effects of human transmutation.

Meanwhile, Roy plays a chess game with General Grumman before he announces to Hawkeye, Havoc, Falman, Breda, and Fuery that they are all going back to be restationed in Central. Scar, recovering in an Ishbalan squatter colony, is advised by the elder that pursuing the current State Alchemists in the Amestrisian military would not do the surviving Ishbalans any good. Yoki recruits two thugs to capture Scar and bring him back to Central, due to his connections to the murder of State Alchemist Basque Gran. Scar easily defeats them and leaves the colony. Lured to a trap after reading a threatening note regarding Ed and Al's secret, Al is captured by Greed's ex-military chimera henchmen to figure out how to transmute a soul into an empty armor. Ed faces off against Dorchet and then Greed, who uses his "Ultimate Shield" to make himself invulnerable to Ed's attacks. Ed finds a way around this by transmuting the ultimate shield itself. Izumi arrives and intervenes, taking Greed by surprise.
14 "Those Who Lurk Underground"
"Chika ni Hisomu Mono-tachi" (地 下にひそむ者たち)

All of the ex-chimera soldiers, including Dorochett, Roa, and Martel, are killed by Bradley himself, who he reveals to Greed his true identity, as Wrath, while the others are shot and killed by the commandos. When Martel, who is hiding inside Al, is killed, her blood splashes on Al's blood seal and unlocks his forgotten memories. Al reveals to Ed that he managed to recover all of his memories prior to being taken away from the Gate when Ed failed in his human transmutation attempt to revive their mother. Greed, severely weakened by Wrath with his dual swords during a duel in the sewers beneath Devil's Nest, is taken back as a captive to Father, who was disappointed at him after he deserted the rest of the homunculi by leaving them behind. Grateful for his rescue, he introduces himself to the brothers as Lin Yao, and explains his purpose for coming from the far east kingdom of Xing. He also informs them of alkahestry. Lin summons his bodyguards and holds Ed and Al hostage to reveal the secrets of the Philosopher's Stone, which leads to a fight in the middle of Rush Valley. Lin and his bodyguards retreat after their defeat, forcing the Elric brothers to confront the angry townspeople. Lin meets with Ed and Al again after they repair the town, explaining Xingese history. Hohenheim leaves the next day, warning Pinako that something horrible will happen in this country. Al explains to Ling the circumstances of his body, and Winry is appalled at Lin's opinion that a body like Al's would be great. Determined to find the true answer, Ed and Pinako dig up the corpse of the failed transmutation, even though Ed keeps retching at the thought. When he digs up some hair, he realizes it wasn't their mother Trisha that they transmuted. Ed then calls Izumi about the legitimacy of her transmutation, but she doesn't answer. Ed then returns to Central and reunites with Al and Winry, reassuring them that getting Al's body back might be possible. Izumi calls Ed back, saying she had the same results as him, which confirms his suspicions that it is possible to bring Al's body back, but not to revive the dead. Ed, Al, and Izumi feel a sense of relief that they hadn't killed someone a second time. Ed and Al reaffirm their resolve to return Al to his original body.

As they arrive back at HQ, they tell Winry everything. She feels depressed, believing all she can do is wait, but feels better when she receives a call from her customers back in Rush Valley. As she goes on the train back, Winry realizes that she actually has fallen in love with Ed. Meanwhile, Ed and Al join up with the others at a hideout, where Lan Fan's wounds are treated. Roy enquires if Bradley was the one who killed Hughes, which he wasn't. Ed asks Mustang to borrow some change, and Ed and Al call Winry to make sure she is all right. After, they encounter Greed, who gives them a message from Lin to Lan Fan. Meeting up with Bradley, Greed points out that Lin is still fighting for control of his body. Roy reveals Bradley's identity to Armstrong, and ponders that there may be another homunculus hidden in the shadows. Al passes on Ling's message to Lan Fan, as well as telling her about him and Greed, encouraging her to get an automail arm. Ed, hearing that other alchemists' alchemy had failed at the same time as his and Al's, wonders how Scar and May's alchemy works. Meanwhile, as Father creates a new copy of Gluttony, Scar encounters Marcoh in the homunculi's prison. Marcoh begs Scar to kill him so that the homunculi cannot use him for their plans. Before dying from an illness, he asked Roy to look after Riza, who, on her back, has the details of his flame alchemy research. In the present, Ed visits Riza to return the gun she gave him, and asks about Ishbal. After the war broke out, Bradley passed a document announcing the extermination of the Ishbalans. It took a toll on many alchemists, including Roy, which wasn't helped by the taunts of Kimblee, who enjoys killing. As Marcoh tells Scar his side of the story, he reveals that he was involved in using Ishbalans to make the Philosopher's Stone, which was given to the state alchemists to enhance their alchemy. The Ishbalan leader tried pleading with Bradley to end the killing in exchange for his life, but was rejected. When the war finally ended, Roy resolved that he would work to become the new Führer to protect the people, and appointed Riza as his second-in-command. Riza mentions to Ed that when they finally achieve peace, they may have to be punished for the crimes they committed during the war. When Envy checks Marcoh's cell, he finds a beheaded corpse and the word "vengeance" written in blood on the wall.

However, May had run off, so they go and look for her. Roy later reminds Ed that he owes him 520 cens, but Ed decides to hold on it until Roy becomes Führer. Roy uses the note he got from Falman to make contact with Grumman. Meanwhile, Fu is shocked to find Lan Fan had lost her arm, and declines Ed's help to find an automail mechanic, since it would involve Ed's acquaintances in their troubles. Afterwards, Knox gets a visit from his wife and son, who are pleased to hear he treated two live patients. Suspecting that Marcoh had escaped along with Scar, Envy releases Kimblee from prison and gives him the task of retrieving Marcoh and killing Scar. Wanting to find out more about Kimblee and the secrets behind his brother's alchemy, Scar destroys Marcoh's face so it won't be recognized, before heading off to the North to recover his brother's notes.

Upon hearing that Grumman saw May at the train station, Roy asks Armstrong to pass the message on to Ed, who had decided to look in the library for information on alkahestry. Upon passing on the message, Armstrong also gives Ed a letter of introduction to pass on to Major General Armstrong, his sister, at Fort Briggs. Later on, Ed and Al meet Bradley's adopted son, Selim, and are invited to his house where they also meet Bradley's wife, and are later joined by Bradley himself. After the meeting, Ed and Al head off towards the North. Meanwhile, Scar and his accomplice escape from the train heading West, and Kimblee tries to predict Scar's next move.

Meanwhile, May continues north with Marcoh, while Ed and Al arrive upon the mountain path leading to Fort Briggs. Deciding not to mention anything incriminating, they speak of their search for May, leading Olivier to be interested in alkahestry. They are given work to do by Major Miles, who is part Ishbalan, and also run into Falman. Suddenly, the homunculus named Sloth appears from underground, and Olivier is surprised by his invulnerability. Olivier and her crew manage to subdue Sloth by dousing him in fuel and sending him outside to freeze. Olivier then has Ed and Al arrested so she can learn more about the homunculus. Kimblee, who is in the hospital, is visited by Lieutenant General Raven, who brings along another alchemist who uses the Philosopher's Stone to heal his wounds. Meanwhile, Marcoh continues to look into alkahestry, with May teaching him about how it works. Olivier, Buccaneer, Falman, Ed, and Al investigate the tunnel that Sloth made, where Olivier has Ed tell her everything. Ed and Falman deduce that the tunnel is being used as a giant trasmutation circle for the Philosopher's Stone, and that Amestris itself was formed for that very purpose. While Miles stalls Kimblee for time, Olivier kills Raven. As Olivier shows a few of her men a separate entrance to the tunnel, Kimblee brings Winry over to see Ed and Al, reminding them of their place and situation. Olivier sends a search party down the tunnels, who find a couple of survivors that warn them not to put any lights on, or else a monster would come. Riza learns that Bradley's son, Selim, is a homunculus named Pride, who attacks from the shadows. Kimblee orders Ed to search for Scar and Marcoh, and to create a bloody crest similar to Ishbal in Briggs, tempting him with a Philosopher's Stone if he accepts. After telling Al and Winry about the situation, Ed grudgingly accepts the job, though he doesn't intend to use the stone himself. As Ed and Al go to search for Scar, their real intent to find May as well, Winry decides to accompany them.

Elsewhere, Scar encounters two of Kimblee's men, a pair of chimeras named Jerso and Zampano, and runs into trouble with them. Scar gets pinned, but Ed and Al arrive and beat the chimeras, before restraining Scar themselves. Winry and Miles arrive, and Winry confronts Scar face-to-face about her parents' deaths. Since Marcoh and May need Scar to decipher his brother's research, Miles offers to hide everyone at Fort Briggs, with Al insisting on sparing the two chimera. While Marcoh and company head for Briggs via tunnels in the mines, Winry comes up with rouse to make it look like Scar has kidnapped her to elude Kimblee just before a blizzard sets in. However, as Marcoh's group heads for the fort, Miles gets word that Olivier is no longer at Briggs, and the fort is being manned by people from Central. Al goes into the blizzard to find Marcoh's group and warn them. While in the blizzard, Al briefly sees his body, and wonders if it is trying to get its soul back. Meanwhile, 'Father' dreams of ancient Xerxes, where Hohenheim was raised as a nameless slave. There, Hohenheim met Homunculus, a being in a flask who was created from his blood, which gave Hohenheim his current name and taught him the basics of alchemy. One night, Homunculus was summoned by the King of Xerxes, who asked Homunculus to tell him the secret for immortality. Homunculus tricked the king into making a gigantic transmutation circle, using the whole country as a sacrifice, while it and Hohenheim stood at the center of the circle. When Hohenheim awoke, everyone else in Xerxes was dead, except for Homunculus. It created a body shaped like Hohenheim for itself, becoming 'Father.' Back in the present, after Hohenheim awakes from this shared dream, he runs into Izumi and Sig. When Hohenheim notices Izumi's sin, he rearranges her organs so that her blood can flow better. After this, Hohenheim tells Izumi and Sig that he is a Philosopher's Stone in human form.

Miles' group attempts to snipe Kimblee, but Kimblee has already figured out their intent and uses a cover of snow to enter the mines. Ed tries to follow, but is attacked by two more chimeras, Darius and Heinkel. Ed disables them by using the ammonia in dynamite to make a stink bomb to overwhelm their high sense of smell. Ed then knocks the Philosopher's Stone out of Kimblee's hand, but Kimblee uses another Stone hidden inside his mouth, sending Ed and the chimeras down a mine shaft and leaving Ed impaled by a steel bar. At the same time, Al starts to drift out of consciousness, saying his soul is being drawn back to his body. Determined not to die, Ed gets the chimeras to remove the bar while he sacrifices some of his life span to temporarily fix the wound and to stop the bleeding. The chimeras find the Philosopher's Stone that Kimblee dropped, and, thankful for their rescue, decide to take Ed to a doctor.

Elsewhere, Falman gets into contact with Breda, and Sloth finishes digging the tunnels. Hohenheim arrives in Liore, where Rose and the other citizens are rebuilding, and finds an underground passage under the church of Leto. As he stumbles upon Sloth's tunnel, he is attacked by Pride but manages to escape outside its boundary, and then tells Pride to let Father know he would be coming. Out of anger, Envy transforms into his true form and begins to attack the group. After being captured by the homunculus, Marcoh destroys Envy's Philosopher's Stone and renders Envy into a tiny, parasitic creature. Scar gives it to May and tells her to return to her country. Marcoh and Scar decide to go their own way, and Al and the rest head for Liore. In Dublith, Bido, the last remaining chimera of Greed's, sees two military officers searching for Izumi. Thinking that they could lead him to Greed, he hides underneath their car. Hohenheim tells Al the truth about himself and his involvement with Father. While Olivier is shown the army of artificial humans created by the military, Bido is spotted by Greed. Bido realizes who he is and tries to make him remember his chimera friends, but Greed ends up killing him. May passes through Youswell, and the people there offer to help her on her journey back to Xing, but Envy tricks her into heading back to Central. Ed, Darius, and Heinkel arrive at one of the old hideouts in Central and are soon met by Lin, who had managed to temporarily regain control over his body. Before Greed takes over again, Lin tells Ed that Father will try to open the gate on "The Promised Day." Since Greed had severed his relationships with the homunculi, Ed suggests that Greed become his ally. Greed jokes that he just might consider it if they work for him, but Ed decides to take that suggestion seriously, and Greed accepts the offer. Al passes a message to everyone, from Izumi and Briggs to Riza and Roy, about the Promised Day, which is set to take place next spring.

However, it is revealed that Al is being controlled by Pride. Pride first gets the upper hand, but Ed responds by blacking out the slums and taking away the light so that Pride cannot use his shadows. Heinkel uses this opportunity to find and attack Pride, but Ed, Greed, and Darius are then attacked by Gluttony. Greed, having a disadvantage in the dark, agrees to switch places with Lin, who uses his homunculus detection abilities to fight Gluttony. Spies from Central are shown to have followed Roy to Madam Christmas's bar, and as they find out that the madam is Roy's foster mother, the bar is blown up by Roy, who escapes through the sewers with Madam Christmas. Roy then meets up with his subordinates before they attempt to take over Central. Darius then takes Al away to a safer place, and Gluttony stumbles upon Pride and Ed's fight. Meanwhile, Kimblee begins to move just as Scar's group is told about the bombing of Bradley's train. As the Promised Day begins, Greed goes to Central on his own while Ed's group and Scar's group meet up again to devise a plan. As Olivier struggles against Sloth, Armstrong rescues her and joins the fight. May lures Envy into a trap in the upper levels, causing them both to fall below into the chamber with Ed's group. Envy reveals that he was the one who killed Hughes, infuriating Roy who seeks to get revenge. Ed's group moves onward as Roy fights Envy, but Ed gets concerned that Roy may end up being consumed by his own hatred. Envy is no match for Roy and flees for his life. Before Roy can kill Envy, Ed, Riza, and Scar persuade him to let go of his anger and his need for revenge, for Amestris cannot be ruled by someone consumed with hatred. Envy becomes outraged by Roy's change of heart and rants about why everyone does not kill each other, trying to goad them into doing so by pointing out all of the terrible things they have done to each other. Ed determines that the reason Envy hates humans is because he is jealous of their capacity to continue living on, despite all the abuse they take. Humiliated and insulted by how Ed understands him, Envy commits suicide by tearing out and destroying his own Philosopher's Stone. Meanwhile, the Armstrong siblings begin to gain the upper hand in their battle against Sloth; Izumi arrives in Central, allied with Briggs soldiers, to participate in the coup; and Hohenheim confronts Father alone.

Roy passes through the Gate of Truth and reappears in Father's lair with Pride, Father, and the other sacrifices, and finds he has lost his eyesight in exchange. Scar battles Bradley above, and May crashes through the ceiling of Father's lair to find Al unconscious. "Kami o Nomikomishi Mono" (神 を呑みこみし者)
Everyone closest to the center of Father's nationwide transmutation circle, including Ed's group, survives to discover that Father has used the souls of over fifty million Amestrians to suppress God within a new, youthful body. Father neutralizes everyone's alchemy, but, before he can annihilate them, Hohenheim reveals his countermeasure: he had spent years traveling the country, placing fragments of his own Philosopher's Stone into the earth to use as foundation for returning the Amestrian souls to their bodies. The stone fragments are activated by the eclipse's umbra, and the souls are ripped from Father's body back into their original bodies, which weakens Father to the point of barely being able to suppress God anymore. The eclipse then lifts, blinding Bradley with sunlight and allowing Scar to kill him. Scar activates the nationwide alkahestry circle his brother and fellow Ishbalans had been preparing, which restores everyone else's alchemy at their greatest potential. Facing the full strength of his opponents' attacks in his unstable body, Father retreats aboveground to find more souls and replenish his stone supply. Ed remains behind to fight Pride while everyone else chases Father. Pride tries to steal Ed's body to replace his own unstable one, but Kimblee's soul reappears within him and taunts him while Ed enters his body and destroys it, reverting him to the form of a small fetus-like creature. They barely manage to survive the blast, but Al and Hohenheim take some heavy damage protecting the others. Before Father can kill Ed and Izumi, the Briggs soldiers, along with several of Ed's allies, join up to attack Father and use up his stone supply. Father lets down his barrier temporarily to try and absorb Greed's stone, giving Ed, Alex and Izumi the opportunity to damage him to the point of defending himself manually. As Father starts to lose control, he creates a blast which traps Ed's arm whilst his automail arm is destroyed. With Ed in danger, Al convinces May to help him perform a transmutation, trading his soul for the return of Ed's right arm. Al rejoins with his body on the other side and with his arm returned, Ed frees himself to unleash a series of blows on Father.
63 "The Other Side of the Gateway"
"Tobira no Mukōgawa" (扉 の向こう側)
While being effortlessly pummeled, Father desperately tries to absorb Greed's Philosopher's Stone. Greed decides to part from Lin's body, and uses his carbonization ability to turn Father's body into weak charcoal. Father extinguishes Greed's soul, killing him, but Ed punches through Father's chest, releasing all the souls of the people of Xerxes and sending Father to the Gate of Truth where he is trapped for eternity. In the wake of Father's defeat, everyone mourns Al's sacrifice. Ed rejects using a Philosopher's Stone to bring him back to life, even after Hohenheim offers his final life as an apology for the pain Ed and Al were forced through. Ed ultimately decides to perform a human transmutation on himself, sacrificing his own Gate and his ability to use alchemy with it. As a reward for discovering he doesn't need to perform alchemy, Ed is allowed to bring Al back with him in his original body. As everyone recuperates from the battle, Hohenheim returns to Resembool and dies peacefully before Trisha's grave.

Having previously seen off Lin, who had promised to take care of May's clan among others once he becomes emperor, Ed and Al return to Risembool where Winry awaits them. Two years later, Grumman, who had become Fuhrer, visits Mrs.Bradley, who had been raising up Selim to be a compassionate child. Al decides to travel with Jerso and Zampano to Xing and other eastern countries to learn about alkahestry, whilst Ed learns what he can in the west, hoping to pool their research together. As Ed heads off, he and Winry finally express their love to each other using the term of equivalent exchange.

As Ed arrives on the scene, the Madam tells him that her late husband kept the truth about the transmutation failure from Judau, who truly wanted to resurrect Rosalie. Ed and Al then leave, carrying this knowledge with them as well.
2 "Simple People"
"Shinpuru na Hitobito" (シ ンプルな人々)
While on their way back to Resembool to have Ed's arm repaired, Ed and Al buy earrings as souvenirs for Winry to prevent her from getting mad about the broken automail. Later on, Ed fights an assassin and his automail gets broken again, and he buys more earrings for Winry to avoid her wrath. Winry explains that she decided to pierce her ears after meeting Riza on the day Ed decided to become a State Alchemist. Meanwhile, Riza explains to her colleague that she grew her hair long after meeting Winry that same day. Her colleague comments on how simple a reason that is, and Riza says that reasons are always simple. To explain her choice, she remarks that they are all living in a simple world - where when they pull the trigger, their enemies die.
3 "Tales of the Master"
"Sensei Monogatari" (師 匠物語)
Back when Izumi was 18, then known as Izumi Harnet, she travels to meet the alchemist Silver Steiner and request to be his apprentice. Giving her only a knife, he tells her to survive one month in Mt. Briggs before she can become his apprentice. On the second day, she is found by some Briggs guards but manages to beat them and take their food rations. On the eighth day, she is close to starving to death, but then becomes motivated to survive. As she learns to defend herself and live off of the wildlife, she realizes the meaning behind alchemy: that one is all, and all is one. However, returning after a month, it is revealed she had been talking to Silver's older brother, Gold Steiner, who is actually a fighter. Annoyed, Izumi beats him and leaves. The OVA ends with an exaggerated look on the first meeting between Izumi and Sig.

Full Metal Panic! (フ ルメタル·パニック! Furumetaru Panikku!, often abbreviated to FMP!) is an ongoing series of light novels written by Shoji Gatoh and illustrated by Shiki Douji. # Title
01 "The Guy I Kinda Like is a Sergeant"
"Ki ni Naru Aitsu wa Gunsō" (気 になるあいつは軍曹)
Three members of Mithril's Special Response Team (Sousuke Sagara, Kurz Weber, and Melissa Mao) are assigned to protect Kaname Chidori from terrorist organizations. Because of Sousuke's age and Japanese heritage, he enrolls at Kaname's school, Jindai High, as an undercover student. However, because of his speech and actions, he comes across as "weird" to Chidori, though she admits he is "interesting" in a phone call.
02 "I Want to Protect You"
"Mamotte Agetai" (守っ てあげたい)
Sousuke's military background prevents him from adjusting to school life, overreacting to seemingly harmless situations. Kaname believes that he is a military otaku and is irritated that he constantly follows her wherever she goes.
03 "Lingerie Panic"
"Ranjerī Panikku" (ラ ンジェリー·パニック)
The SRT springs into action when an intruder is seen sneaking into Kaname's apartment. Meanwhile, the Tuatha de Danaan, Mithril's most advanced submarine commanded by Teletha "Tessa" Testarossa, launches a missile strike on a Whispered research facility in the USSR.
04 "Kidnap"
"Kiddo Nappu" (キッ ド·ナップ)
Kaname and Sousuke's class go on a field trip to Okinawa, but Gauron, a terrorist operative, hijacks their plane and diverts it to a base near Lake Khanka in the USSR. The terrorists kidnap Kaname and subject her to scientific testing. Unable to bear the thought of her potential fate, Sousuke infiltrates the base and attempts to rescue Kaname.
05 "Whispered"
"Sasayakareshi Mono (Wisupādo)" (囁 かれし者(ウィスパード))
Sousuke saves Kaname and commandeers an Arm Slave (AS) while Mithril launches a rescue operation. When Sousuke confronts Gauron, Melissa and Kurz arrive to provide back-up so he and Kaname can escape with the other students; however, they miss the rescue planes and are left behind.
06 "Still Alive"
"STILL ALIVE"
Sousuke and Kaname seek refuge in the woods, where they find Kurz who was wounded after Gauron destroyed his AS. As the enemy closes in, the three attempt to communicate with Mithril. Under fire, help arrives just in time when Mithril sends Sousuke's new AS, the Arbalest.
07 "Boy Meets Girl"
"Bōi Mītsu Gāru" (ボー イ·ミーツ·ガール)
During his battle with Gauron, Sousuke struggles with the Arbalest's Lambda Driver. While watching the fight, Kaname begins to learn of her Whispered abilities, instructing Sousuke how to precisely operate the machine. With Kaname's help, Sousuke manages to defeat Gauron and the Tuatha De Danaan rescues him and Kaname.
08 "Part Time Steady"
"Pātotaimu Sutedi" (パー トタイム·ステディ)
When Mizuki Inaba's boyfriend, Shirai, asks Kaname out, a jealous Mizuki spreads vicious lies about her around the school. However, Mizuki's actions causes her boyfriend to dump her for being overbearing. Mizuki is then forced to ask Sousuke to be her boyfriend when she meets with her friends.
09 "Dangerous Safe House"
"Abunai Sēfu Hausu" (あ ぶないセーフハウス)

10 "Run, Running, Ran"

However, the terrorists locate him and capture Tessa and Kaname. Sousuke is forced to give up Takuma for the two girls.
11 "Behemoth Awakening"
"Behemosu Kakusei" (ベ ヘモス覚醒)

Claymore: An Extremely Interesting Piece Of Anime

In a world where humans coexist with sentient monsters called Yoma that feed on human innards, an organization has created an order of half-human, half-yoma warriors to protect humans from the yoma, for a large fee. The people of this world have dubbed these warriors "Claymores" based on their swords. They are also referred to as "Silver Eyed Witches", based on their appearance and seemingly cold nature toward others. Each Claymore has a rank number which is based on their strength and ability. There are 47 ranks corresponding to the number of regions of the land/world.

Clare, nearly fully awakened, continues the battle, but Priscilla still dominates the fight with apparent ease, until Clare, spurred by flashbacks of Teresa, finally hits her with multiple devastating attacks. Priscilla reverts to her human form and is about to be killed when Raki intervenes, but Clare, unable to control herself, attacks him as well. Jean takes the blow instead and, although fatally wounded, manages to have Clare revert to her human form, leaving Clare tormented with grief for the death of her comrade. Priscilla is then retrieved by Easley. In the last scenes, Miria, Helen, Deneve, and Clare announce their wish to leave the Organization and depart on separate journeys, with Helen traveling with Deneve, and Raki with Clare.
