| Mon, 21 Jul 2008 12:01:35 PDT Teaser trailer for Japanese pandemic flick Infected Island (Kansen Rettou) |
We recently reported on this apocalyptic flick inspired by the avian flu, but we still don't have a synopsis. Instead, there's a brief teaser trailer available, and while it doesn't show much of any grimy desperation we're all framiliar with in PA movies, it shows some possibility.. If this ends up just being a Japanese drama, well, sorry folks.Infected Island official website via 24FPS |
| Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:02:30 PDT Sway trailer is sick, and good |
Any time I see a sicko wearing a furry bunny mask and torturing people, you had me at hello! This is really low budget but the insanity shines through. Ahhh, good times. "SWAY is a bizzare and disturbing tale of a pair of backwoods flesh peddlers, three sexually-sadistic serial killing brothers, and a family of religiously fanatical psychopaths who all get more than they bargain for when they all three target a young man suffering from schizophrenia who has more than a few skeletons in his closet. | Mon, 21 Jul 2008 10:02:30 PDT BREAKING NEWS - Our Canuck gets married! |
NEWS FLASH! Our very own Canuck, our assistant managing editor, our man with the plan, AgentOrange just got married this past Saturday, so I thought I'd share the good news with you folks so you could wish him well, and I also thought I'd embarrass him with a picture he sent me of him decked out in a bunch of Incredible Hulk merchandise he got at his job (not like either of us would actually watch that flick because we're like pretentious film snobs and stuff). Ahh, life is good. Congrats brother, you're the man! (Sorry ladies, but hey, I'm still single) |
| Sun, 20 Jul 2008 00:02:53 PDT Trailer for sweet tooth slasher Butcher's Hill |
The uncensored version of this pushes the boundaries for taste in a trailer, but it's so bad it's good, and not in a cheap way. While this doesn't show the kids head getting chopped off and his body sliding to the floor, it'll give you a little hint of it. This short is supposedly going feature length and I'm already looking forward to it, check this: "Two children. One castle. A fairy tale atmosphere corroded into darkness." Yes, children, and NSFW. | Sat, 19 Jul 2008 23:36:46 PDT Stills for Pulse 2: Afterlife are terrible |
We recently wrote that the post-apocalyptic Pulse 2: Afterlife will be hitting DVD on September 30th, and with the release of some stills I'm betting we're going to get a trailer in short order. But on to the news, the stills look terrible but then again it's a cheap sequel, and regardless of how bad they look I loved Pulse so much I'm still going to watch it. "The world has been reshaped by the invasion of ghosts via the wireless internet. Cities are deserted, technology has been destroyed and the few remaining human beings eschew anything electrical in order to avoid a confrontation with the soulless ghosts that now wander the planet. Most of the ghosts are doomed to a repetitive loop of something they did while they were still despairing humans (a man repeatedly hangs himself, for example), but there are some ghosts so locked in denial, they do not know they are dead. They continue to haunt their homes, wrapped in fear that their souls will soon be torn from them." Stills after the break!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() via STYD |
| Sat, 19 Jul 2008 23:27:24 PDT Ron Perlman on becoming an actor |
Normally we don't pay any mind to actors around here, preferring to go with directors, producers, and writers, but Perlman is a force unto himself what with City of Lost Children among countless others. He's been doing a run with Larry Fessenden and James Felix McKenney on some of their flicks including The Last Winter (which I highly recommend), and James sent us off a link to an interview they did with him about how he became an actor. For all of you fans out there, it's after the break.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62YzvoOss-c&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344"> |
| Fri, 18 Jul 2008 15:45:28 PDT Book trailer for Jeff Carlson's upcoming PA novel Plague War |
We covered Jeff's first nanotech PA novel Plague Year and loved it and now the followup Plague War will be shipping on July 29th! The story revolves around nanotech gone haywire which blankets the Earth up to 10000ft. Above this marker is the only elevation humans can survive at. There's a few goverments left fighting over these high places, and from Amazon: "Researcher Ruth Goldman has developed a vaccine with the potential to inoculate the world’s survivors against the nanotech plague that devastated humanity. But the fractured U.S. government will stop at nothing to keep it for themselves." You can read the first chapter here. You can also pre-order the book at Amazon. Check for the book trailer after the break. |
| Fri, 18 Jul 2008 11:58:29 PDT Multiple Personality Disorder report |
Wow, it seems we're light on actual meat and potatoes this week but heavy on itty bitty news. We've got a few things to report so we'll cover them all in here. Starting off, our friends at Dread Central got an exclusive, reporting that George Romero's Diary of the Dead 2 is supposed to shart shooting this September. Let's hope this is true even though we all know DOTD sucked, but hey, it'll probably be post apocalyptic and we'll watch it anyways. Next we have some great TV news from Spain about a show called Pluton BRB Nero which will be helmed by Alex de la Iglesia who did The Oxford Murders. Pluto is a "comedy set in the year 2530, the sci-fi skein narrates the adventures of a group of marines, who cross space searching for a inhabitable planet because the Earth is covered by buildings." I do love me some overpopulation. Shooting began on the 26 35 minute episodes on June 16th with a skedded release of September. No word on when we'll get English subs. In remake news, the 80s classic Valley Girl which starred Nicolas Cage is supposed to get a musical remake courtesy of MGM and will sport classic 80s music, nice. Forgive me for reporting this but I love 80s films. In more redux news, the classic Papillon will get another go as part of a Spanish/US co-production with a 90$ million budget. For those who haven't seen the original which stars Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, I recommend it, but it's nothing compared to the epic 1000+ page book so I'm actually looking forward to this. Here's hoping they can do it better justice. Lastly we have more news from BD about genre favorite Brad Anderson who did the incredible flick The Machinist. He's got a few films in the works, one of them being post-apocalyptic which is called Vanishing but unfortunately there is no details. But even better he's looking into doing one of J.G. Ballard's stories called Concrete Island and Christian Bale has expressed interest in starring as the lead. I'm a MASSIVE Ballard fan and as I predicted it looks like the run on his work is started, and for those who missed it, Vincenzo Natali's next project is supposedly Ballard's awesome High Rise. YES! That's all for now folks.Variety: Pluto Variety: Valley Girl Variety: Papillon |
| Fri, 18 Jul 2008 11:24:48 PDT BBC Radio RomCom Apocalypse Drama |
I was listening to BBC radio on the internet yesterday and stumbled across this: "I Wish to Apologise for My Part in the Apocalypse, by Duncan Macmillan. A romantic comedy about the end of the world, a woman who falls in love with the moon, and her husband who falls back in love with her. With Bill Nighy and Amelia Bullimore." True, it's not a movie, but Bill Nighy (Underworld, Love Actually) is a God to me, so I have to share. I Wish to Apologize is a 45 minute radio drama that works around romance, psychology and ideas, rather than action and suspense. Think "gentle thought provoking" drama rather than "blood soaked action ride." I won't go into the plot details, but it's really all about the moon and the night sky, Bill gives a fine performance, and it's worth a listen. I Wish to Apologize is on the BBC's regular Afternoon Play series and is available online until 24 July, then it's history. Link to show after the break.I wish to apologize radio show |
| Fri, 18 Jul 2008 10:55:52 PDT New kaiju short Showdown of the Godz stars George Takei |
From SciFi Japan comes word of a new kaiju (Japanese monster) short that stars none other then Star Trek's George Takei, and while the synopsis sounds pretty lame, the poster hints at something much bigger. Unfortunately there's no footage at this point, but here's the rundown: "Jesse (David Gasman) is the world’s biggest Japanese monster movie fan. Trapped in a stultifying insurance job and a deteriorating marriage, the only bright spot in his life is his obsession with a certain Japanese monster, which he shares with his adorable 7-year-old daughter Cassie (Ayla Guttman.) Jesse’s power attorney wife Mary (Alixx Schottland) drags them into counseling, where Jesse reluctantly promises he will forgo all things monstrous for one week to focus on the family. But when Jesse sees a rare monster toy on display at NYC’s Monster Sushi, he challenges proprietor Ono (George Takei) to a Japanese monster trivia contest. If Jesse wins, he gets the coveted toy. If he loses, he owes Ono $1,000. Ono accepts on one condition: Jesse must face “a representative from Monster Sushi”—legendary Japanese monster movie archivist Matsuhisa Jin. Jesse goes into geek overdrive preparing for the showdown. But on the eve of the event, Mary leaves him. Devastated, Jesse is a no-show. But wise Ono has one last surprise up his sleeve that may just pull the family back together…" Showdown of the Godz will be premiering at SDCC.Showdown of the Godz official website |
